About Us
Summer Program for Special Children (SPSC)
In 1989, several parents and teachers of Regina’s special needs children realized that there was a need for recreational, community-based summer programming. They witnessed firsthand that the progress each of these children accomplished throughout the school year began to deteriorate without access to continued engagement over the summer. These parents found that the summer months were a very stressful time with little or no relief from the daily care of their children with special needs. The success of the Summer Program for Special Children (SPSC), has been overwhelming, proving beneficial not only to the children, but parents, counselors, and the community.

SPSC provides recreational day programming for children with multiple disabilities, children who frequently struggle to find access and supports in mainstream programs that are offered. The program runs for 5 weeks over the summer and has low camper/counsellor ratio, a program director who oversees the operation of the camp, and a nurse to administer medications and oversee special feeding requirements (tube feeding, etc). Accessible transportation from home to camp and daily outings is also provided for campers.

The SPSC is operated by a board of volunteers who do all the necessary fundraising. The board hosts an annual major event fundraiser and also receives funding from government, corporate, and private donations.
