CAMP DIRECTOR

Camp Director Job Description

  • The camp director's job involves summer day camp management and operation in keeping with the SPSC’s philosophy, goals and objectives

  • The camp director ultimately oversees and has responsibility for all camp activities including campers, counselors and day to day operations of the 5-week day camp.

 

Reporting Relationship

  • The camp director will be responsible to the Board of Directors for Summer Program for Special Children

 

Camp Director Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a system of management and supervision for all elements of the camp operation with particular attention to staffing, programming, camp budget and participants.

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate all camp counselors and volunteers.

  • Mandatory five-day training July 4- July 8, 2022.

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a full day camp program scheduled to run 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday inclusive from July 11 to August 12, 2022.

  • With the Board and camp nurse, review camper applications and determine acceptance based on mandate of SPSC.  Schedule and participate in home visits with camp nurse for all successful camper applications.

  • Develop and lead orientation session for all camp counselors prior to camp start date.

  • Tracking expenditures as well as documenting daily activities and problems/concerns

  • Maintain clear communication with the campers’ parents/guardians

  • Report to the members of the board of Summer Program for Special Children as part of the scheduled board meetings.

  • Creating a Director’s Report at the end of the program listing recommendations of camp program.

The deadline for Director applications is March 27th, 2022. Interviews will be conducted in April. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Interested applicants must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, provide a recent Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector), and provide three professional references.

In the interest of the health and safety of all of our campers, the successful applicant will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.

CAMP NURSE

In cooperation with other staff members, be responsible for the safety and security of campers in the program scheduled Monday to Friday inclusive July 4th  to  August 12, 2022  from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays).

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Administration of any medications and/or treatments as set out by the caregiver of the camper.

  • TLR facilitation and training for all camp staff would be considered an asset.

  • Ensure safe storage of medications and supplies needed for treatment.

  • Supervise aspects of care of the campers including feeding, toileting, positioning, behaviour management etc.

  • Attend and participate in orientation session(s) in conjunction with the Program Director.

  • Provide clear communication between staff members and caregivers as needed.

  • Provide basic first aid to campers and staff.  This may include cuts, scrapes, sun burns, etc.

  • Review camper applications and follow up with caregivers as necessary to determine eligibility for the Summer Program.  *This would take place prior to the camp start date of July 4/22*

  • Maintain accurate documentation daily for individual campers’ medical and health needs

CAMP COUNSELOR

As a camp counselor you'll be involved in a wide variety of events, entertainment and exercises designed to help kids with special needs get the most out of summer.

 

Counselors are responsible for a one-to-one relationship with their camper as well as any of their camper needs over the duration of camp (excluding medical needs).

​

Mandatory five-day training July 4- July 8, 2022.

​

Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm for five weeks. (July 11 to August 12, 2022)

 

Successful applicants will be:

  • experienced working with people with special needs

  • enthusiastic and energetic

  • flexible and patient

  • must be reasonably fit as some lifting is required on occasion and some campers are very active

  • good communication skills

  • team player in a collaborative environment

 

The deadline for applications is April 24th, 2022. Interviews will be conducted in May. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. All previous SPSC Counselors must re-apply to be considered.
